Mine is the 240 volt option so what follows is just the experience of someone who makes wooden things. The device is an ingenious hybrid of a compound mitre saw and rise-and-fall table saw. It's pretty good at both and factory set accurately. The table saw fence has a rule and the chop saw fence has an optional extra rule tho' the fitted laser guide line means the cut comes where you expect once you've measured and marked. There's a gizmo needed to convert from one to the other; don't lose it.

I've always experienced high quality and good design with Makita products. This saw is generally good, and has allowed me to take one saw for some jobs where otherwise I would have had to take two. Its a shame that the saw in Drop-saw mode can't cut deeper and be on rails, but I understand that its best to do two things well than add a slide mechanism and have it wobbly all the time. In table saw mode its much quieter than I feared it would be. My only significant gripe is that the large piece of plastic that you have to put under the blade when you use it as a table saw, has slightly warped (during manufacture) and so I have to do a merry dance (hopefully having three hands) when bringing the saw down into table mode, so that the lug that sticks up to trigger some hidden mechanism actually goes where it should, and doesn't go the wrong side of there tiny piece of metal inside a slot, which can cause the saw to be unable to do anything. So far a brilliant purchase, just a shame Makita didn't make a bespoke bag for it.
