Green Fingers? How to Pick Your Gardening Tools
Although it may not seem it at times, we’re in the height of summer in the UK. However, it’s the mix of sun and showers that are making our gardens grow faster than ever – making it difficult to keep on top of. Here at Alan Wadkins, we have a range of garden machinery and tools to help keep your garden and outdoor space in tip top shape.
Lawn Mowers
With the typical British weather, it’s easy to let your grass grow out of control if you don’t keep a close eye on it. Humid and damp conditions are ideal for grass so when we have a mix of sunshine and showers, its growing cycle dramatically increases over the summer months when the amount of daylight are also increased (increase in photosynthesis) – allowing it to grow up to 6 inches a month. With these perfect growing conditions we’ve been having in the UK so far this summer, if may feel like you’re left with an out of control wilderness in your outdoor space if you don’t keep on top of it.
We have a selection of both electric and petrol lawn mowers for you to choose from on Alan Wadkins. If you have a large garden, we recommend you look into purchasing a petrol lawn mower so you’re not trailing cables across the whole garden. One of our most popular electric lawn mowers is the Bosch Garden ROTAK 43 ERGOFLEX. It has a large grass box capacity, which means fewer stops.
Grass Trimmers
There are always areas of your garden that you can’t get to with a lawn mower, such as under bushes and foliage, close to walls or near footpath edges. We have several grass trimmers here at Allan Wadkins, including electric, cordless and petrol grass trimmers. For ultimate portability in those hard to reach areas, we suggest using the Makita Twin 18v Cordless Line Trimmer. It only weighs 4.5kg!
Hedge Trimmers
Another area of the garden which sometimes sees neglect is the bushes and hedges. Keeping these well trimmed regularly keeps your garden looking much tidier and better maintained. Again, here at Alan Wadkins we have a large range to choose from, including petrol, cordless and electric. We also have a range of pole hedge trimmers – perfect for reaching those high hedges! A fantastic entry level hedge trimmer is the Makita Electric Hedgetrimmer with a 48cm long blade.
Pressure Washers
Not forgetting the other area of your garden that needs regular maintenance is the footpaths and other hard surfaces. With the damp conditions, these can easily become dirty and covered in moss. One way to instantly brighten them up and improve their condition is by using a pressure washer, such as the powerful Stihl High Pressure Cleaner. The pressure washer can also be used on garden furniture and cleaning the car.
